The ICC Champions Trophy is an elite event for the top eight nations in the Reliance Mobile ICC ODI Rankings. The event, formerly known as the ICC Knockout, has been held five times and has been won by a different side on each occasion.

Winners of the competition include South Africa (1998), New Zealand (2000), Sri Lanka and India (2002), who were joint winners after the final was washed-out, West Indies (2004) and Australia (2006).

The tournament has been staged in Bangladesh (1998), Kenya (2000), Sri Lanka (2002), England (2004) and India (2006).

At the most recent event held in India, no side went through the event unbeaten and the competition saw a number of outstanding individual and team performances. In the semi-final, Australia defeated New Zealand by 36 runs, while in the other semi-final, the West Indies saw off the challenge of South Africa by a comfortable six-wicket victory.

The final was affected by rain and having bowled out the West Indies for 138 runs, Australia passed the revised Duckworth/Lewis target losing just two wickets.

The next event will take place this year in South Africa.

The ICC Champions Trophy was made by Asprey.

It took 60 hours to manufacture and is made of sterling silver with silver gilt cricket ball at the top.

The ICC Champions Trophy weighs 3.1kgs.

The trophy is 46cm high, while at the base its circumference is 47cm and at the top its circumference is 48cm
